Why should you wear vintage?

Bildschirmfoto 2013-12-11 um 23.59.48Vintage is unique

Have you ever walked into a party and realized that you were wearing the same outfit as another person? We all shudder at the very thought of this common social misfortune. On the other hand, if you wear vintage you will avoid such embarrassing moments because vintage is unique. When you wear a vintage dress for example, you are automatically wearing a highly individual and rare piece of clothing that very well might be the only one of its kind. At that certain time, these older items were produced in much smaller amounts than today’s mass produced clothing. This is one of the main reasons why so many Hollywood celebrities wear vintage on the red carpets. Wearing vintage will assure that you will stand out from the crowd in a trendsetting outfit that actually underlines your individuality!

Vintage is an investment

Unless you are willing to spend a small fortune on the newest haute couture, your clothes already lose value the second you take the tag off of them. You can rarely buy a piece of clothing expecting it to keep its value over a certain amount of time. In comparison to that, there is a collectible market for vintage clothing and the value of many pieces raises with time. On top of that, many pieces of vintage clothing are actually collectable. As it becomes harder and harder to find with time, vintage clothing becomes more and more valuable as it grows older. Vintage is definitely money well spent!

ALAIA – An exhibition that no fashion lover should miss!

A few weeks ago Camille and I visited the ALAIA fashion exhibition to tell you about it on our lifestyle blog. This exhibition, which takes place in the Galliera Museum in Paris, honors Azzedine Alaia, a Tunisian fashion designer. Alaia studied at the School of Fine Arts in Tunisia before moving to Paris during the 1950s. He was excited about Parisian elegance and the beauty of the French metropolis. The young creative benefited from the city’s inspiration to create collections of very chic clothes.

The exhibition comprises a selection of about seventy iconic models presenting some of Alaias most famous dresses. The range of clothes goes from old fashioned cotton dresses from the 50s to highly modern combinations of leather and sequins. You can even see a dress that has been worn by one of his most faithful admires Naomi Campbell.

Within the development of fashion, the exhibition also shows the development of the female outline over the last years, becoming thinner and more androgynous from year to year.  The interior-design of the show is very chaste and dark focusing on the amazing items disposed. It is really easy to recognize Alaias device for fashion : ‘When I’m working on a garment, it has to flow over the body, in profile and in back view.’

Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures in the museum, but anyway they wouldn’t have transfered the breathtaking spirit of the complete works of Azzedine Alaia –  so as a fashion victim you should really not miss this exhibition which takes place until January 26th!

TRAVEL

Facing difference I am facing myself

Travel is that place that frees me from you

Where there is no importance to what or who

The core of what I am now reveals itself

It is each and every second’s discovery

In which I find myself bathed and floating in

That gives me that feeling of being within

My god given right to live and love fully

When time has come to go back home

When life gets hard and my heart moans

Every encounter every landscape

In my mind are carved so I can escape

TOP 4 how to entertain your kids on an airplane!

AirParis

We want to make you fly

This is usually hell for parents: Taking young children on the airplane. They are crying, shouting and moving all the time. They want to run around, push every button they can find, and just create chaos. But a flight can be so relaxing when the kids are well entertained and when they have something “useful” to do. In the following we give you the four best ideas proposed by AirParis, an airline we took for an 8h flight to Dubai. This is how they managed to get our children quiet and comfortable. If you can only use one of these tips, we can assure you that you’ll enjoy your voyage and be able to look forward to the next flight with your lovely family.

4 – Places especially for kids in the airplane

What about regrouping two or three kids next to each other so that they can play together? Of course, the parents have to be OK with that – that is why there is an option which is proposed during the booking process on the official websites. Just imagine how relaxed you could be as parents when children are entertaining themselves during an 8h flight. A real dream 10000km above the ground.

And additionally, the crewmembers are especially paying attention to your children, trying to make them feel happy and safe.

3 – Creative food ideas

There is nothing worse than a hungry child next to you during a flight. As flight crews offer a very limited selection you should better think of bringing your own food for them. It’s astonishing how much time children can spend on consuming snack food. Nevertheless there are a few things to observe to be sure to do everything right – and AirParis was really careful with its meal selection for children.

First of all: Avoid any sticky, messy or crumbly food. For juice boxes it’s important to choose small spill-proof containers that can be finished at once. Furthermore it’s all about the certain mixture; neither favorite snacks nor new surprises should be missing.

But attention: Never ever commit a blunder by bringing only one bag for two children. A bag, containing one bottle of juice, one bag of chips, or even worse two different flavors of chips can be deadly. A fight about who gets the most and who gets the best is irrefutable. But no worries, you can easily hide out from this catastrophe. The fair solution is one bag for each child, with identical contents, so everyone knows exactly what is his or hers. Make sure that you also have a pack of gum to chew at takeoff and landing. It can’t be ensured that your children won’t have any ear issues but at least it will help a little. The amount of unhealthy snack food during a flight might be as much as they usually get for one week in daily life.

And in case you completely forgot about bringing something for your children: Just think of a crazy meal and ask your children to use their imagination and to pretend to cook it – a great way to pass time while sitting in a seat.

But that’s the effort the airline put forth to ensure a calm flight. Last but not least, for the benefit of our seatmates.

2 – TV program just for kids

Imagine your kid can watch all his favourite Disney and Pixar movies on the plane, you won’t hear anything during the entire flight. The airline offers a big range of movies for kids, beside the big Blockbusters, you can find a Kids channel with very interesting documentaries, interactive television programmes and the most recent television programmes. Of course your child will also find all the classics such as “The adventure of Tintin” or “ Pippi Longstocking” and “Winnie-the-pooh” . All contents are specially assembled for children and are chosen with a lot of care. This exclusive offer, which you can’t find on any other air company, is totally free for all international flights.

OUR WINNER – What can be possibly better than Toys?

Then after eating and playing with all the food given by the cabin crew, children could entertain themselves for a part of the voyage with toys. You parents don’t have to bring and be weighed down with your children’s games. Many of the airplane companies give toys for children on the flight. They usually have cuddly toys, a little colouring book with colored pencils, but AirParis really offers everything a children could ask for. Even the latest technologies are taken on the flights and allow the children to distract themselves, for example to play on touch screens installed in front of the seats. Just imagine your two little children playing together or against each other in a racing game of Disney – isn’t that sweet!

These things should show you that it isn’t that hard to have a relaxing flight above the clouds. But always think about one thing: Parents are the best entertainment for their children and kids love when parents are paying them attention – so don’t just leave the kids alone with their plastic toys and animated series.

The invasion of blockbusters in cinema ?

Do you know those movies where you already know the end before watching it ? Those are called blockbusters.

The world of Cinema has really changed in the last two decades, principaly with the explosion of downloads. In fact, the only source to make profits is the projection at the cinema, and not like before with DVD sales.

The international market represents 70 percent of profits, therefore, blockbusters. We can see that with “Ice Age“, this movie has generated 175 million dollars in America, and 206 million dollars in the international market for the first one of the saga. We are talking about 200 million dollars in America and 700 million dollars internationally for the third “Ice Age 3“.

Obsessed by the international market, the functioning of the Americain studio doesn’t leave any place for creativity. To be sure of the result, they make a movie only if one hero, one book or one game is well-known enough worldwide. There are only blockbusters that will be sold in mass.

The American studio’s goal is now to create a series of movies, like Iron-man, Spiderman, Superman, which generate billions of dollars. They have realized that the population most likely to watch, are young people less than 24 years old, so they produce movies which are likely to please them.

The Big Bang Theory

Today, I’m going to talk to you about a new party for a new area: The Big Bang Theory. This is an electronic music festival that lasts two days. In the summer this music festival is better known as Marvellous Island. The location is called “Chalet de la Porte Jaune”, and is in an island in the middle of the Bois de Vincennes, the woods east of Paris.

The Big Bang theory’s aim is to plunge an expected 8,000 people for this first edition, into a galaxy of artistic encounters during these two nights, on Friday the 29th and Saturday, the 30th of November.  For an entire weekend, you’ll feel the vibrations and interstellar dance in the Milky Way galaxy. This is a very unique and unusual experience.

The only downside are the ticket prices: tickets are between 25 and 55 euros according to the number of days desired. But tickets sold out very quickly. This party is worth the cost though, because it’s a sacred journey that takes people away from the cliché parties already experienced.

Beyond the very nice line-up, this is an artistic world, led by the sets and stage designs, combining sound and light performance.

For your eyes, you have the guarantee of a trip into a cosmos of lunar rocks created by magician designers. Then, for your ears, they offered you the best artists labels of our galaxy, such as Minus or Crosstown Rebel, and many others to join people on this unexpected trip. So, it’s under a starry night that the party begins. Once you cross the porch, you can let yourself be carried light years away from your daily life. This party transports everybody to an electronic heaven.

Enjoy!

Sans titre

The Showcase

Showcase is one of the most famous Parisian nightclubs, it is located under the Alexander III bridge which is a marvelous monument, especially famous for its street lights and sculptures ornamented with gold leaf.

First, a little history about the bridge: it was unveiled in 1900 by the Russian tsar, and it symbolizes the French-Russian relationship. The building of this huge monument took approximately 3 years and it was the Russian tsar who laid the foundation stone.

Now let’s get back to the topic; Showcase. It is the biggest Parisian nightclub and can allow almost 2,000 people. Since it’s located under the bridge, the huge dance floor is situated behind the several pillars that support the bridge. We can see all the old bridge structure which is made of old stone and heavy metal welded with traditional rivets (rivets that were created during the Eiffel period). The night club also has a really nice outdoor smoking room, which is actually located at the other side of the bridge. This outdoor smoking area is a friendly place because both smoker and non smokers can go without contracting final stage lung cancer in ten seconds. More over you have a marvelous landscape view on the Grand Palais, plus the Eiffel tower, plus the Alexander III bridge, PLUS the Invalids, and well,  it could be worse!

The Showcase has a nice reputation thanks to its atmosphere and musics. The nightclub manages to attract DJ stars such as Kavinsky, Bakermat, Etienne de Crecy and many others. Showcase also organized a famous electro festival during the summer which lasted one week. Because of this dynamism and energy, the nightclub is almost full all the time, therefore, if you want to go there please dress up appropriately. For men, forget sneakers; for girls, forget jeans, and don’t wear too much make up and jewelry in order to  not look like a Christmas tree (as we say in France).

Showcase is also really famous for being a multicultural place, because of its location and the quite touristic landscape it offers (Eiffel tower + Grand palais + Invalides + Alexander III = All in one formula for only one nightclub ! What a bargain!). Consequently it seems to be a good place to improve your idioms (Alcohol helps you to have a better accent in theory… but forget grammar rules). Indeed this nightclub is voted on by Erasmus students. The place is also a nice reference for the French hipster community.

To conclude, as you can understand, Showcase is not a second hand choice for a party hang out. First, because you must dress up properly, and secondly, because the prices are expensive (minimum price for a drink is 10e, and if you want to have a bottle, please call your banker and beg him to death unless your name is Rothschild). But after those requirements are met, you can enjoy your night in one of the most unusual places in Paris.

Hey dude , I’m going to dance under a 110 year-old bridge in Paris !
